airport lounge stanstedIf you're not interested in signing up for a particular airline's lounge (or indeed for their frequent flyer program), another option is to purchase a once-off stay in an airport lounge facilityLarge international airports such as London Heathrow, Singapore Changi and Dubai International have top class lounge facilities for any passenger who wants to purchase a pass or membership.  Many allow pre-purchase over the phone or via the internet before you even leave home.  Heathrow's facilities, for instance, include complimentary food and drink (including alcoholic beverages), wireless internet access, entertainment for children and even phone and fax services for business travellers; day passes can be purchased from the front desk or from the BAA website.

If you find yourself taking a rare international trip or find yourself flying with an airline you usually don't use, purchasing a one-off pass is a good way to cut-down on unnecessary annual membership costs without having to sacrifice your comfort and relaxation.  For those travellers who visit locations once only in their lives, or who rarely fly, it is more cost-effective to use the single purchase option than it is to have a permanent membership.  Even frequent flyers may find the single-purchase concept more financially sound, especially if they shop around for tickets and are not loyal to one airline (or indeed one airport).  Those that travel to a different location each year for their holidays will also find that one-off lounge purchases are a better option for the same reason.
